BRISTOL, RI-Robert E. Doyle, 75, of 22 Slocum St., Bristol and formerly of Shrewsbury and Northboro, MA died Monday, January 13 in the John Pastore Center, Cranston after an illness.
He leaves his wife, Marjorie (Gould) McGee Doyle; two sons, Robert E. Doyle, Jr. of Perrysburg, OH and James P. Doyle of Duxbury, MA; a daughter, Elizabeth Fitzpatrick of Burlingame, CA; two step daughters, Amy Andrzejek of Cazenovia, NY and Jodi McGee of Fairhaven, VT; a brother, Paul Doyle of Florida and 11 grandchildren.
He was born in Shrewsbury, the son of the late Paul E. Doyle and Margaret J. (Duprey) Doyle Burke and lived in the Shrewsbury and Northboro areas for many years before moving to Rhode Island 7 years ago. He graduated from Shrewsbury High School, where he was the captain for the footbal team and rowed for the national championship crew team. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and was a member of the crew that won the championship at the the prestigious Henley Regatta in England.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Japanese theater.
Mr. Doyle was joined the Owens Corning Fiberglas He was an avid sailor and world traveler. His funeral will be held on Friday, Jan. 17 from the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St., (www.brittonfuneralhomes.com) Shrewsbury, MA with a Mass at 11 AM in St. Mary's Church, 640 Main St., Shrewsbury, MA. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.Calling hours at the funeral home are Thursday, Jan. 16 from 4-7 PM.
