Richard J. Cavagnaro passed away suddenly, on Monday, January 13, at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington. The husband of the late Edna M. (Dinsmore) he was 91 years old.
Born in Boston, Richard was the son of the late Adelaide (Giovanani) and Victor P. Cavagnaro.
Richard was raised in Somerville, graduating from Somerville High School in 1929, he then moved to Woburn in 1955 and retired from the Boston Naval Shipyard in 1973 where he worked as a shipfitter. He also had his own business repairing ships for the US Navy from aircraft carriers to to submarines. He was a avid golfer throughout his life and one of his greatest thrills was getting a hole in one at the Brookline Country Club.
He is survived by two sons; John J. Cavagnaro and his wife Kathy, Stephen T. Cavagnaro and his wife Elizabeth, one daughter Jean M. Cavagnaro all of Woburn. Also six loving grandchildren and four loving great grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother Victor Cavagnaro of Woburn and two sisters, Marie Ward and Edna Carli both of Somerville.
He is predeceased by his wife Edna, a son Richard Jr. and two daughters Elaine and Marie Cavagnaro and a brother Arthur Cavagnaro.
His funeral will be held from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home 60 Pleasant St. Woburn on Friday, January 17, at 10 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Barbara Church, 138 Cambridge Rd. Woburn at 11. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 thru 8.
