Obituary

Warwick, Rhode Island – William A. Dempsey, 94, died Thursday November 29, 2007 at the Rhode Island Hospital in Providence.
Born in Cedar Falls, Iowa the son of Nelson and Bertha (Metzler) Dempsey he was a graduate of Worcester Classical High School, and went on to receive a B.S. and M.S, in Electrical Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.While in the service he attended Harvard and MIT and became a pioneer in the design and development of RADAR.
While residing in Rhode Island he was a former communicant of St. Timothy’s Parish in Warwick.
During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged with the rank of Lieutenant Commander.
For many years he had been employed as an Electrical Engineer for Narragansett Electric Company.
Mr. Dempsey was a member of the Society of Professional Engineers of Massachusetts, and Rhode Island.

Survivors include his wife; Eleanor A. (Fleming) Dempsey, and daughters, Jane E. Dempsey of Wellesley, Mass., Charlotte A. Price of Southold, NY, and Ellen Dempsey Willard and her husband Charles of Exeter, NH, and grandchildren: Nelson Willard, Caroline Willard, and Ashley Price.

Friends may call on Wednesday morning from 8:45-9:45 A.M. at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, Inc. 233 Lawrence Street in Methuen.

A Funeral mass will take place on Wednesday morning at 10 o’clock in Saint Mary’s Church in Lawrence with burial to follow in Lindenwood Cemetery in Stoneham, Ma.
