Obituary

Arthur F. Fonseca, 99, a resident of Winchester for over 50 years, passed away at Life Care of Stoneham on Dec. 2. Born and raised in Cambridge, he was the son of the late Jessie and Rose (Bernade) Fonseca. Arthur was employed as a newspaper printer with the Hearst Corp. for over 47 years with the Record American newspaper, retiring in 1973. He was active in the Jenks Senior Center in Winchester, where he enjoyed membership on the Recreation Committee. Arthur was always interested in art, and during retirement, he pursued this interest further, participating in art classes at the Jenks Center for over 10 years. He also took art classes at the DeCordova Museum and in the Adult Education program at Winchester High. He converted a room in his home into an art studio, where he spent many hours painting oil portraits, landscapes and seascapes. He also enjoyed gardening, and sailing. He always loved the water and got his first boat at the age of 16. Arthur was predeceased by his wife, Helen (Palladino) and daughter Rosemary Fonseca. He was also the brother of the late Joe, Jack, Manny, Tony, Jesse, Annie, Mary, Ollie and Dorothy. Several nieces and nephews survive Arthur. His Funeral will be held from the Costello Funeral Home 177 Washington St., Winchester on Thurs. Dec. 6th at 9AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church, 155 Washington St., Winchester at 10AM. Visiting hours will be held on Wed. from 4-7PM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Burial will take place in Wildwood Cemetery, Winchester. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the Jenks Senior Center, 109 Skillings Rd., Winchester, MA 01890.
