Joan (Friedland) Simons, a resident of Lynnfield, formerly of Chelsea & Peabody entered into rest on December 2, 2007 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. She was 73 years old.
Born in Everett, the daughter of the late Saul & Betty (Miller) Friedland, Joan was raised & educated in Chelsea. She graduated from Chelsea High School in 1952 & went on to study at a secretarial school in Boston. In 1954 Joan married Chester I. "Chet" Simons & together they began a wonderful marriage that would last for 53 years. Joan dedicated her life to being a loving wife, mother, & grandmother. She was a resident of Peabody from 1960 until moving to Lynnfield in 1982. Joan was a longtime member of Temple Beth Shalom of Peabody & Hadassah.
In addition to her husband, Joan is survived by her son, Mark Simons of Wakefield; her daughter, Debbie Goldstein & her husband Mitchell of Andover; her grandchildren, Craig, Stephanie, Ari, Elana, & Jared; her sisters, Irene Weinstein & her husband Leon of Swampscott & Sandra Kamens of Danvers; & her aunt Molly Devonick of Lynn.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at 2:00 PM in Temple Beth Shalom, 489 Lowell St. Peabody. Rabbi Howard Kosovske will officiate. Burial will follow in the Temple Beth Shalom Cemetery, Buxton Rd. Danvers. Memorial observance will be held at Joan's late residence immediately following the burial on Tuesday & on Wednesday & Thursday from 2-4 & 6-9 PM.
