Robert J. Devlin, 78

Dateline: Norton, MA

Robert Joseph “Bob” Devlin, 78, a lifelong resident of Norton passed away peacefully at home on Saturday December 1, 2007. He was the beloved husband of Marjorie A. (Bechard) Devlin and the late Eleanor A. (Bauza) Devlin.
Born in Norton, MA on June 22, 1929 he was the son of the late Patrick J. and Catherine G. (Maguire) Devlin.
Following graduation from Monsignor Coyle High School in 1947, he enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served on the U.S.S. Coral Sea.
For many years Mr. Devlin worked as a Registry of Motor Vehicles Investigator, and was honored to retire from the Massachusetts State Police in 1995. He also worked as administrator of his family business, the Old Colony Rest Home in Norton, until the day he died.
A communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Norton, Bob was involved in Norton town politics and formerly served on the Board of Fire Engineers and was a former member of the Zoning Board of Appeals. Mr. Devlin enjoyed following the Red Sox, tending to his day lily garden and especially spending time with his loving family.
In addition to his beloved wife of 34 years he is survived by his devoted children; Patrick J. Devlin and his wife Laura of Walpole, Marcella K. Rippel of Norton and Kathleen F. Devlin of Norton, his dear sister Mary Dick of Nahant, his cherished grandchildren; A. Charlie Rippel, Cole M. Rippel, Robert M. Devlin, Margaret J. Devlin and Katherine E. Devlin, also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
His funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Thursday December 6th at 9:00 A.M. from the Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave) Norton followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church South Worcester St. Norton. Burial will follow in the Timothy Plain Cemetery, Norton.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday December 5th from 5-8 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home.
