Obituary

Robert D. Leighton, 73, a 43 year resident of Brockton, died at his home on Wednesday.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, a son of the late James A. and Anna (Cook), he lived in Chicago before moving to West Bridgewater where he graduated high school in 1952.

He graduated from UMass-Amherst with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History.

He served with the U.S. Navy and was discharged as a commander.

He worked as an engineer for over 40 years at Alden Products in Brockton, retiring in December of 2006.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Bridgewater and enjoyed woodworking and fishing.

He was the husband of Marjorie (MaDan); father of Jamie Lynne Leighton of Randolph, Bradford Emery Leighton of N.H, Douglas Spencer Leighton of Brockton, Matthew Whitman Leighton of East Bridgewater & the late Robert D. Leighton Jr. Brother of Patricia A. Cosgrove of W. Bridgewater, Jamie Barnes of Milwaukee Oregon & the late Douglas W. Leighton & Elizabeth Alger. Also survived by 9 grandchildren; his brother-in-law, Richard Alger; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Monday at the First Church, Howard St., West Bridgewater, at 11 a.m. Visiting hours are on Sunday from 4-8 p.m. in the Prophett Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St. (Rte. 18), Bridgewater.
