Obituary

WORCESTER-Howard E. Gaffney, 72, of 15 Crestlan Circle died Sunday, January 12th in Saint Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center after a short illness. He leaves his wife of 44 years, Marie F. (Belforti) Gaffney; 2 sons, Brian E. Gaffney of Worcester and Paul E. Gaffney of Uxbridge; a daughter, Jane M. Hill of Webster; 2 brothers, Jack J. Gaffney of Pompano, FL and Richard Gaffney of Rutland; 3 grandchildren; many nephews and nieces. A brother, Robert Gaffney predeceased him.

He was born in Worcester the son of John J. and Alice G. (Maguire) Gaffney and has lived in Worcester all of his life. He graduated from St. John’s High School and was an Army 2nd Airborne veteran of the Korean Conflict. Mr. Gaffney worked as a truck driver for 25 years for Northeast Foods, from where he retired. He was a member of the Teamsters Local #170. He spent his winters in Florida and summers in Wells, Maine. He enjoyed mechanics, loved the beach and conversation.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, January 15th from O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1290 Grafton Street. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday, January 14th from 4:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph Retirement Fund, 34 Lower Westfield Road, Holyoke, Massachusetts, 01040.
