GLOUCESTER: Marjorie “Marjie” (Meuse) Stout, 87, of 99 Prospect Street, died early Sunday, November 25, 2007 in the Golden Living Center, Gloucester following an extended illness. She was the wife of the late Fred W. Stout who died in 1986.
Born in Gloucester on August 1, 1920, she was the daughter of the late James H. and Catherine Gertrude (MacDonald) Meuse. She was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and attended St. Ann School.
During World War II, she worked for Sylvania in Ipswich, manufacturing parts for the war effort. She was proud to receive a pin awarded to her in recognition of her work. Marjie later worked as a fish packer at Gorton’s for many years. She also once worked as a waitress and a presser at the former Greel’s Laundry & Dry Cleaning on Main Street and the former Michel’s Diner in Gloucester. She was one of the original directors of Action, Inc, where she served from 1965 – 1978. She was especially pleased to volunteer many hours in the interest of the Headstart Program.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, C. Leslie and Michael DeParis of Sun City Center, FL, four grandchildren, Robin (Sturtevant) Delk of Newport News, VA, Ronald Stout of Gloucester, Debra Stout of Lowell and Lisa (Stout) Leake of Dorchester, three great-grandsons, Nathan, Steven and Eric Stout all of Gloucester and many nieces and nephews. Marjie will also be greatly missed by her extended family, Barbara and Robert Catalini and their family and dear friends, Hilda Pata and family. She was also predeceased by a son and his wife, David J. and Lillian (Degnan) Stout, seven sisters, Catherine Ledbetter, Anna Davis, Jeanette Kopana, Lucille Tarr, Charlotte Beaulieu, Priscilla Frontiero and Murielle Hammond and three brothers, James, Robert and Karl Meuse.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday in the Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester at 11a.m. Visiting hours will be held in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester on Wednesday evening from 4 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, MA 01923.
