Obituary

We lost a beautiful spirit this Thanksgiving eve while God gained another angel. Millie will be reunited with her loving husband, the love of her life, to whom she was married on Nov. 9, 1946 and also her only son “peter” who passed away unexpectedly earlier this year.

Millie was born in Groton, CT on April 18, 1922 to Dorothy May Johnson and Rossie E. Batty. Her stepfather was Harry E. Breed to whom she was especially close. She was predeceased by a sister, Pauline Kenyon. She is survived by another sister, Beverly Roberts who resides at Mary Elizabeth Nursing Center.

Millie was a cherished wife, loving and devoted mother, nurturing grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a zest for life and a love of people. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her pride and joy. She loved to knit and crochet making afghans and hats for her children and friends. She loved the simple things in life such as family picnics, babies, traveling, shopping and long days at the beach. She was a member of the Old Mystic Baptist Church.

Millie was a resident of Mary Elizabeth for the past 11 years. It was there that she celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary with her husband Louie, their children, and friends. She made many new friends while there as did her family; all of whom will not soon be forgotten.

She is survived by her three daughters, Alice M. Thompson & husband Bill of Griswold, Susette M. Henry & husband Bill of No Stonington, and Laraine A. Main & husband Don of Mystic; 6 grandchildren, Deborah Irwin of Hope Valley, RI, Robert Thomas of Westerly, Michelle Main of Norwich, Josh Main of Mystic, and Zachary and Jesse Henry of N. Stonington; 3 great grandchildren, Tyler and Hunter Irwin of Hope Valley and Katelyn Thomas of Westerly.

Millie's family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Tuesday from 5-7pm. A Funeral Service will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11am with the Rev. Lisabeth M. Gustafson officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at Elm Grove Cemetery.

Donations in her memory may be made to Mary Elizabeth Nursing Center Resident Council Fund, 28 Broadway, Mystic CT 06355.
