Obituary

Leonard J. “Lenny” McDermott Sr., 75, of Hyde Park and Dedham, passed away after a brief illness surrounded by his loving family on November 20, 2007. He was the beloved husband of Patricia A. (Rabbitt) McDermott for 51 years.

Lenny was born and raised in Hyde Park and lived there for 75 years. He was the son of the late John E. and Veronica (Green) McDermott. He was a dedicated parishioner at St. Pius X Church in Milton and proudly served in the United States Army Honor Guard in Washington D.C. during the Eisenhower Administration. He was a Disabled American Veteran and was formerly employed by Allis-Chalmers, the United States Post Office and the Gallery Group. He was an avid boater, fisherman and sports fan. He was an enthusiastic supporter of the Hingham Youth Football Red Raiders.

He was the devoted father of Susan M. McDermott of Dedham, Leonard J. McDermott Jr. and his wife Cassandra (Wright) McDermott of Hingham and the cherished grandfather of Alison, Connor and Riley. He was the brother of Gerard F. McDermott of West Roxbury and the late Richard, John and Donald McDermott and Veronica Karem. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held from the George F. Doherty & Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home, 456 High St., Dedham, on Saturday at 10:00 AM with a funeral mass in St. Pius X Church, Milton, at 11:00 AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment will follow in Brookdale Cemetery, Dedham. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 3-8 PM at the funeral home.
