Obituary

GLOUCESTER: Caroline E. (Wakeling) Powers, 94, of 5 Derby Street died Saturday evening, November 17, 2007 at her residence. She was the wife of the late Alfred C. Powers, who died in October of 1976.
Born in Gloucester on November 17, 1913, she was the daughter of the late William and Maude B. (Harris) Wakeling. She was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and had attended Gloucester public schools.
Mrs. Powers was employed for many as a stitcher at the former Cape Ann Manufacturing, D.O. Frost, Royal Sportswear and Strong Leather Manufacturing, having retired in 1968.
She was a fifty-year member of the Ucita Council, Order of Pocahontas. She enjoyed the outdoors and camped for twenty-six years at the Westwood Shores Campground in Ossipee, New Hampshire.
She is survived three daughters and two sons-in-law, Alice N. and George Frazier, Sr. of Gloucester, Doreen M. Collins of Beverly, and Virginia Lee and William Cail of Exeter, NH, two sons and daughters-in-law, Alfred W. and Nancy (Arena) Powers of Lakeland, FL and Robert E. and Carol (Pearson) Powers of Manchester-by-the-Sea, nine grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by three sisters, Grace Powers, Gertrude E. Smurage and Winifred M. Crane, two brothers, Albert Wakeling and Simean E. “Gus” Wakeling, and a granddaughter, Audrey N. Batchelder.
Her funeral service will be held on Friday in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 – 8 p.m. Interment will be held in the Beechbrook Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, MA 01923.
