Herbert A. Saunders, 82, of Rochester died Wednesday January 8, 2003 at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Eileen T. (Mullins) Saunders.
Born in Fairhaven, the son of the late Raphael and Mary (Bisaillon) Saunders, he lived in Rochester for most of his life.
He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church in Rochester.
Mr. Saunders was a master carpenter and true craftsman building homes. He previously was employed by the Atlas Tack Company in Fairhaven for 18 years.
He enjoyed woodworking and gardening. He loved his family dearly.
Survivors include his wife; 2 sons, Stephen Saunders and his wife Brenda, and Robert Saunders and his wife Maria, all of New Bedford; 3 daughters, Marianne Sweet and her husband Wayne of North Dartmouth, Eileen P. Sigman and her husband George of St. Augustine, Florida, and Kathleen Manning and her husband Butch of Wareham; a brother, Milton G. Saunders of Mattapoisett; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Herbert A. Saunders, Jr. and James M. Saunders, and brother of the late Stephen Saunders and Elliot Saunders.
