WORCESTER- Ann Hurley (Reardon) Sweeney, 89, of Worcester passed on Nov. 18, at home, surrounded by her devoted family. Her husband Thomas J. Sweeney, a former reporter and columnist for this newspaper died in 1965.
She leaves ten children, Thomas J. Jr. and his wife Pamala of Worcester, William F. and his wife Eileen of Worcester, Paul V. of Auburn, Judith A. Lynch and husband Charles of Uxbridge, Jane M. Sweeney of Newcastle, NH, Mary E. Grundy and her husband Allen of Houston, TX, John M. of Worcester, James F. of Madison, WI, David P. of Worcester and Michael P. of Worcester. She also leaves a sister Judith of Worcester, known in the religious order of the Sisters of Mercy as Sr. Mary Regis. She was predeceased by sister’s Jane McNamara, Susan O’Connor, Joan Reardon, Martha Readron and Constance Reardon and brothers David and Richard Reardon. She also leaves 17 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Ann was born in Worcester, daughter of William F. and Lila (Hurley) Reardon and was a graduate of Commerce High School. She was employed for many years at St. Vincent Hospital and the former Jewish Home for the Aged.
Ann was a founding member of Christ the King Church. Her greatest enjoyments came from time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings with family and friends. She loved and thoroughly enjoyed vacationing on the seacoast of Maine and New Hampshire. Ann was an avid follower of national and local politics, was a loyal Red Sox fan for decades, and was thrilled when they won the World Series in 2004 and 2007. The family wishes to acknowledge the caring and compassion provided by the nurses and staff of the VNA Hospice in Worcester.
The funeral will be held on Wed., Nov.21 from CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St. with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant St., Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. Visiting Hours are Tues., Nov.20 from 5 to 8 PM at the funeral home.
