Obituary

TEWKSBURY; Vernon H. “Chip” Darby, Jr. age 54 a recent resident of Jerome, Idaho, formerly of Tewksbury, MA died unexpectedly on Monday, October 22, 2007, in Hailey, Idaho, following an apparent heart attack.
Born in Lowell on September 24, 1953, he was the son of the late Vernon H. and Gladys E. (Beare) Darby.
Vern was raised in Tewksbury, attended Tewksbury schools and graduated from Tewksbury Memorial High School in 1971.
Vern resided in Tewksbury for 53 years until moving to Jerome, Idaho in March of this year.
He spent most of his life working in various aspects of construction, including operating heavy equipment, painting, and laying asphalt.
Vern was currently employed as a paving contractor by the Valley Paving Company of Bellevue, Idaho and previously worked for the B. R. Wight Paving Company of Tewksbury.
According to his family, he loved working with his hands and especially loved working outdoors gardening and performing yard work.
Vern will be remembered for his good-natured personality, quick-wit and his loyalty to family and friends.
He is survived by his sister, Kathy J. Jessup and her husband Rex of Jerome, Idaho; his brother, Scott B. Darby of Tewksbury; four nieces, Lora K. and Janet E. Jessup both of Jerome, Idaho, Rachel A. and Jane K. Darby both of Tewksbury; one nephew, Scott B. Darby, Jr. of Tewksbury; also many extended family members and friends.
Relatives and friends may gather at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury, on Saturday, November 24th, at 10 a.m., to proceed to the Tewksbury Cemetery for his committal service. A memorial luncheon will follow at the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks, 777 South St., Tewksbury. In lieu of flowers, donations in Vern’s memory to the Daniel J. Flynn Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o TD Banknorth, 2345 Main St., Tewksbury, MA 01876 are requested.
