Obituary

Mr. Joseph “DeDe” Sardone, 86 of Medford, formerly of Boston’s North End died on Thursday in Mass. General Hospital following a brief illness. He is the husband of Evelyn Sardone with whom he shared more than 58 years of marriage.
Born in Worcester, son of the late Joseph and Carmella (Rango) Sardone. He was raised in Boston’s North End and attended local schools, in addition he went on to a college of culinary arts.
A Veteran of WWII, he served in the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy, he began amateur boxing. During that time he became a Golden Gloves Boxing Champion in 1936. Among his many friends in the fight game were boxing champions Gene Tunney and Jack Dempsey.
DeDe was a chef by trade, working in many of the finer establishments throughout greater Boston.
He was a member of the D.A.V. Medford post #21 and also was a member of the H.E.P.A. club in Florida. He loved cooking and was an avid Red Sox fan.
In addition to his wife, he leaves a son John Sardone and his wife Barbara of Medford. Loving grandfather of Cara Sardone of Medford. Brother of Mary Bibo of Braintree, Delores Luongo of Medford and the late Samuel, Francis and Leo Sardone. Funeral from Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., MEDFORD Tuesday at 8 am. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant Street, Malden, at 9 am. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Monday 4 –8 pm. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
