Bridgewater - Guy C. Clifford, a resident of Bridgewater since 1967, died suddenly at Brockton Hospital on Oct. 29, 2007.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was raised in South Hempstead, Long Island. He was a graduate Rockville Center High School.
He served with the U.S. Navy ROTC. He graduated from Tufts University with a bachelor's degree in engineering. He received a master's degree and PhD from UMass-Amherst.
He was a professor of political science at Bridgewater State College from 1967-1996. He also taught at the Naval Academy for a short time.
He was a member of the Natural Resource Trust of Bridgewater, the Central Square Congregational Church, where he was a past Deacon.
He enjoyed playing Scrabble with his sons, tennis, Bridge, the Red Sox, golf and spending time with his grandchildren.
He was the husband of Gale (Anthony); father of William of Winchester, Robert of Los Angeles, James of La Crescenta, Calif., John of Shrewsbury; grandfather of Harry, Lana, Robbie, Emily, Abigail and Amanda; brother of Douglas C. of Panama City, Fla.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at St. Basil's Chapel at Bridgewater State College at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be private. Visiting hours are on Friday in the Prophett Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St. (Rte. 18), Bridgewater, from 4-7 p.m.
