Harwich-Herbert S. Hansen Jr., of Harwich, formerly of Bridgewater, died suddenly Nov. 9, 2007, at Cape Cod Hospital. He was 79.
Born in Somerville, son of the late Herbert S. and Agnes M. (Bergman), he was raised in Weymouth.
He served with the U.S. Army, Company F, 17th Infantry, during World War II and Korea, earning three Purple Hearts, Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars.
He worked for more than 30 years in customer service at the First National Bank of Boston.
He was a life time member of the VFW, an avid golfer, a former Sunday school teacher at the Central Square Congregational Church in Bridgewater and enjoyed gardening, fishing, cross country skiing and collecting.
He was the husband of the late Barbara (Smith); devoted dad to David W. of Kentucky, Deb L. Messier of Bridgewater and Holly Burgess of Abington; loving Grandpa to Bryan W. and Kimberly Ebbs, both of Abington, Jason P. Cummings of Middleboro, Lyndsay R. Cummings of Plympton, David T. and Austin E. Hansen, both of North Carolina; brother of Marian Leach of New Hampshire, Charlotte Gilcrest of Weymouth, Paul Hansen and Janet Baldwin, both of Arizona and the late Florence "Sandy" Moore. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be on Sunday in the Prophett Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St. (Rte. 18), from 1-3 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday in Cedar Knoll Cemetery, Taunton, at 9 a.m.
Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Known by some as Herb; by kids as dad; and Grandpa by all.
