Leonel S. Medeiros, 90, of 444 Wilbur Ave. formerly of 128 Thelma Ave., Somerset, MA. Widower of Mary P. “Mae” (Oliveira) Medeiros. Son of the late Antonio & Maria (Massa) Medeiros. Passed away Nov. 9, 2007. He was a Somerset resident for 61 years. He was a U.S. Army Air Corp veteran of World War II with the rank of Sgt. He served in the Air Transport Command Section of the Air Force, serving in Belem, Amapa and Recife Brazil from Oct. 1943 to Nov. 1945. He was a member & Eucharistic Minister of St. John of God Church a member of its Holy Name Society, & a Recipient of the Marian Medal, Charter Member of the Bishop Cassidy Council # 3669 Knights of Columbus in Swansea, Fourth Degree Bishop Stang Assembly Knights of Columbus in Fall River, American Legion Post 303 of Swansea, Amvets Post 0072 of Somerset, VFW Post, & the Somerset Council Portuguese American Civic League. Before retiring in 1984, he was the Head of the Maintenance Department of the Somerset School Department. Previously he had worked for 31 years for the Sagamore Manufacturing Company in Fall River starting as a sweeper & working as an Overseer of Spinning when the company left the state.
He is survived by 4 children: Richard J. & wife Kathleen Medeiros & Diane M. & husband William Bromberg all of Warwick, RI, Sandra L. & husband Robert Shrader of Fall River, MA & Paul B. & wife Lynn Medeiros of Louisville, KY. 1 sister: Natalie Souza of Fall River, MA. 9 grandchildren: Jessica Medeiros, Patricia Zavras, Eric, Jared & Gregory Bromberg, Daniel & Allison Shrader, Derek & David Medeiros. 3 great grandchildren: Lucas Roberts, Lilyan Rose & Kalista Zavras & several nieces & nephews. He was brother of the late Humberto Cardinal Medeiros & Manuel Medeiros.
His funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main St., Fall River, MA TUESDAY at 9 A.M. followed by a funeral mass in St. John of God Church at 10 A.M. Interment in St. Patrick Cemetery, Somerset, MA. Calling hours MONDAY 3-7 P.M.
