Joseph “Joe” Grigas, 67 of Center Ossipee, NH, died Sunday, November 4, 2007 in the Huggins Hospital, Wolfeboro, NH. Mr. Grigas was born in Lowell, MA on December 24, 1939, a son of the late Joseph and Rita (Boulea) Grigas. He was a resident of Derry, NH for most of his life, formerly living in Pepperell, MA. Joe graduated from the Lowell Trade School and began working as a carpenter. He was employed as a carpenter for Tamchar Construction. He belonged to the Pepperell Volunteer Fire Dept. and was a volunteer on the E. Derry Fire Dept. for many years. Joe loved to hunt and fish and was an avid snowmobiler. He was a proud member of the Abenaki Tribe and in his retirement he founded the Abenaki Wood Shop, specializing in scroll saw work and various woodcraft.
He is survived by his wife, Rosemarie (Lambert) Grigas of Center Ossipee, two sons, Philip G. Grigas of Derry, Michael J. Grigas of Canterbury, NH, a daughter, Rose Lavallee of Concord, NH, and by three grandchildren, Jennifer and Jamie Lavallee and Michael J. Grigas, Jr.
Visiting hours were held from 6-8pm on Thursday, November 8, 2007 in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. Funeral services were held on Friday at 10:00am in the funeral home. The burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery, Londonderry, NH. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Children With Diabetes Foundation, 685 E. Wiggins Street, Superior, CO 80027.
