Irene S. (Lamas) deMedeiros, 73, of New Bedford died Thursday November 1, 2007 at Taber Street Nursing Home after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Joseph J. deMedeiros, Jr.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of Rose (Silvia) Florent of New Bedford and the late Antone Lamas, she lived in New Bedford all her life.
Mrs. deMedeiros was Vice President and Secretary of the Federal and State Tenants Association, and was active in Bingo and the Tenants Association at Tripp Towers. She was a Chinese checkers champion and was a master of Nintendo.
Survivors include her mother; three children, Rosemary Hargreaves and her husband Edward of Hanson, Irene deMedeiros and her fiancé Michael Botelho of Acushnet, and Joseph J. deMedeiros, III and his fiancée Amanda Lizotte of New Bedford; a brother, Edward Lamas of New Bedford; five sisters, Shirley Sowle, Pearl Stendzis, Lorraine Dragon, Pauline Livramento, and Benvinda Andrade all of New Bedford; six grandchildren, Lawrence Trahan and his wife Erica, Kendra Corcino and her husband Edwin, Jessica Baulier, Emily-Rose, Leeza, and George Hargreaves; three great-grandchildren, Nicole Balut, Eliana and Scott Joseph Trahan; and her uncle, Joseph Oliveira.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 AM at St. Joseph-St. Therese Church. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.
