
New Bedford - Mary E. Potter, 85, of New Bedford died Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the widow of George C. Potter and daughter of the late George T. Nickelson and Mary (Sweeney) Nickelson.
She lived in the New Bedford / Dartmouth area for most of her life. She was a graduate of New Bedford High School. A member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church for over 60 years, she served as a Sunday School teacher and on many committees. She was a member of Church Women United in New Bedford and United Methodist Women of her church. Mrs. Potter was a member and M.C. of the St. Pauly Girls Kitchen Band. She was a member and past Matron of Cortez Allen Chapter # 161 of Westport having received her 50 year pin in 1997. She was a past Deputy Grand Marshall for the Order of the Eastern Star of Massachusetts. She enjoyed people, loved traveling and at one time coordinated pleasure trips throughout the United States and Canada. She was employed in the office of Dr’s Edward and Stephen Mackler for over 35 years retiring in 2002.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews; and grand nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Leroy M. Nickelson, Nahum F. Nickelson, George T. Nickelson, Jr., Daniel A. Nickelson, Robert W. Nickelson, Ellen C. Nickelson-Flor & Marion E. Nickelson.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Friday, November 2, 2007 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 884 Kempton St., New Bedford at 10:00 A.M.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5 - 8 P.M. with Cortez Allen Chapter # 161 O.E.S. Eastern Star service at 7:00 P.M. at the Potter Funeral Home.
Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Westport.
