Obituary

Olympia (Drake) Gomes, 95, of Fairhaven, formerly of New Bedford, died Wednesday January 1, 2003 at Our Lady's Haven in Fairhaven after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Richard Gomes.

Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Fortunato and Mary (Gonsalves) Gonsalves, she lived in New Bedford for most of her life.

She was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.

Survivors include 4 sons, Mario Gomes of Boston, George Gomes of Taunton, James Gomes of New Bedford, and Richard Gomes of New York; 5 daughters, Julia Gomes, Eva Gomes, Doris Fonseca, and Jeanette Tavares, all of New Bedford, and Rose Gomes of San Francisco; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.She was the mother of the late Elizero Gonsalves and Shirley Carle, and sister of the late Mabel DeDeus and James Gonsalves.

Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New BedfordMonday January 6, 2003 at 8 AM.Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM.Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Sunday January 5, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9PM. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
