Robin Jane Spencer of Pembroke, Maine, recently of Mystic, Connecticut died Saturday, October 27th at Mystic Manor.
Robin was well-loved in the Mystic area as a bright light in the local restaurant scene. She had been the smile at the door at The Fisherman Restaurant in Groton and later a VIP Host and bartender at Foxwoods Resorts until just before she moved to her home in Maine in early 2006.
As a child, Robin enjoyed competing in hunter-jumper shows around New England on a series of beloved horses, and diving competitively each summer.
A true bon vivant, Robin loved good conversation, great music, fabulous food, and all of her remarkable friends. She kept a garden every summer and cooking creative and mouth-watering meals for friends and loved ones was her joy, even if she’d just spent the whole day in the kitchen of a restaurant. Robin was a passionate and out spoken person.
She was a generous, thoughtful friend, cousin, and aunt. Robin attended Pine Crest Preparatory School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and graduated from the Oxford School for Girls in West Hartford in 1970. She graduated from Hartford College for Women and later attained advanced degrees in Culinary Arts and Workforce Education and Development, Three Rivers Community-Technical College and Southern Illinois University respectively.
Robin is survived by her mother, Ruth Spencer Tasker and her husband Gordon Tasker of Palm City, Florida; her sisters Lois Spencer Humphrey and Pamela Rose Spencer; her niece Laura Spencer Humphrey; her loving cousins and aunt, and a multitude of friends. She is predeceased by her father, Walter B. Spencer.
Her family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Thursday from 5-7pm. A Graveside Funeral service will be conducted at Center Cemetery, Rocky Hill on Friday at 11 am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
