Obituary

Worcester: Jeannette Y (Vachon) LeClair 82 of 11 Lake Ave. died December 31st in her home following an illness.

Her husband of twenty four years, Edward L LeClair died in 1966. Mrs. LeClair is survived by three sons Edward L LeClair of Philladelphia Penn. Robert T. LeClair of Millbury and James J. LeClair of Sebastian Florida. Four daughters: Carol A Fahey of Chicopee Mass. Florence A LeClair of Worcester, Jeanne M Diehl of West Roxbury and Denise L George of Shrewsbury. Two other daughters Michelle C LeClair of Worcester died in 1962 and Carmen L Tobin of West Boylston died in 1984. She is also survived by three sisters Regina LaFrance and Lillian Nichols both of Worcester and Laura Ducharme of Kimberly Wisconsin. A sister Evelyn Gelineau of Oxford died in 1945.. Mrs. LeClair leaves fourteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.She was born in Rochester New Hampshire a daughter of Ludger and Ida (LaRochelle) Vachon and lived most of her life in Worcester. She attended Holy Rosary High School in Rochester New Hampshire. Mrs. LeClair retired in 1983 from Saint Vincent Hospital where she worked for ten years as a housekeeper.

A longtime member of Saint Joseph's Parish, she was a member of and past Secretary of Chapter 209 AARP, she also served as Chaplain at Lincoln Park Towers, and was an Associate of The Sisters of Mercy. Mrs. LeClair was a volunteer at The UMass-Memorial Medical Center, University Campus and with the UMass-Memorial Hospice Program. She previously served as a volunteer at Saint Francis Day Care and at one time sang in the choir of the former Saint Anthony's Church.

Mrs. LeClair cared for more than eighty foster babies for Catholic Charities.

She was one of ten people honored at Worcester City Hall with awards for outstanding community service during the 1999 International Year of The Older Person.

The funeral will be held Saturday January 4th from The Dirsa-Morin Funeral Home 298 Grafton Street with a Concelebrated Mass at 10am in Saint Joseph's Church 35 Hamilton Street. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery.Calling hours at the funeral home are from 5 to 8pm Friday January 3rd.A Prayer Service, led by members of the Sisters of Mercy will be held at 6:30pm Friday January 3rd.The family requests that flowers be omitted and that donations be made to either The Carmen Tobin Nursing Scholarship Fund c/o The Greater Worcester Community Foundation Inc. 44 Front Street Suite 535 Worcester Mass.01608-1782.
