Peter Montelonga, 69, of Hollister, California, formerly of Vanceville, entered into rest on Friday, October 26, 2007, in Hollister, California. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 2, 2007, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Roger Tucker will officiate with burial to follow in Lawrence Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Rudy Skaggs, Pete Skaggs, Billy Hobbs, Jeremy Hobbs, Tom Williams and Steve Skaggs.
Mr. Montelonga was born on October 10, 1938 in Hollister, California and was the son of Joseph and Gertrude Montelonga, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Dessie Montelonga, who passed away in 2005; his siblings, Anthony "Smokey" Williams, Dolores Castillo, Anita Montez, Irma Chavez, Joe Montelonga, Bertha Avina, his son-in-law, Doef Skaggs and his brother-in-law, Rosario Lopez. He was a retired, 20-year veteran of the United States Army and enjoyed many pasttimes such as bingo, family gatherings and travel. He had a great sense of humor, was compassionate, thought of others first and never gave up and had a positive attitude. He loved his dog "Little Bit" and loved his "youngins". He lived in Georgia for 25 years before returning to California.
Mr. Montelonga is survived by his loving family in Georgia, Jerry and Dorothea Hobbs, Shirley Skaggs, Dolph and Pat Skaggs, Rosela and Ray Foust, Steve and Loretta Skaggs and his numerous grandchildren; his sisters and brother, Rebecca Lopez of San Juan Bautista, Maria Elena Gonzales and her husband, Manuel, of Hollister, California and Frank Gabriel and his wife, Carol, of Drexell, North Carolina. He is also survived by his nephews and nieces in Hollister and California.
