Obituary

Dorcas M. (Marsaw) Layport, 70, of Rochester died Thursday October 25, 2007 at Sippican Healthcare Center after a brief illness. She was the wife of John L. Layport; they had been married for 49 years.

Born in Worcester, the daughter of the late Percy and Mabel (Ballou) Marsaw, she lived in Mattapoisett for 35 years before moving to Rochester.

Mrs. Layport was a member of the Historical Society of Early American Decoration, the Society of Decorative Painters, and the Horseless Carriage Club of America. A prize-winning painter and lecturer on Early American art, she taught many students in her home studio.

Survivors include her husband; three children, Doug Layport and his wife Sandy of Acushnet, Donna Bosworth and her husband Jim of Dartmouth, and Sara Coker and her husband Kyle of North Carolina; three sisters, Patricia LaBranche of Eastham, Susan Saunders of Shrewsbury, and Penny Denechaud of New Jersey; and eight grandchildren, Michael, Andrew, Timothy, and John Bosworth, Robbie Layport, Logan, Katie, and Adam Coker.

A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday November 11, 2007 from 2-4 PM at the First Congregational Church in Rochester.
