Obituary

G. Harwood "Howie" Wilson,89, of 504 Main St., died Tuesday, Oct.
23 at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester after a short illness.
He was the husband of Madeline A. (DesRosiers) Wilson who died in 1997. He
leaves his son Carl H. Wilson, Sr. and his wife Mary of W.Brookfield, two
grand children, Michelle R. Chavez and her husband Michael of Portsmouth,
N.H., and Carl H. Wilson, Jr. and his wife Jennifer of Spencer, two great
grandchildren Manuel M. Chavez of Portsmouth, N.H. and Stephen Massarone of
Spencer, his longtime friend Wilma McComas of Spencer and several nieces and
nephews.
Mr. Wilson was an agricultural farmer and owner of the former Wilson Farms
in Spencer for many years before retiring in 1984.
He served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army Aircorps and was a member
of the 446th. B24 Liberator Squadron ("Bungay Buckaroos") as a top turret
gunner having flown 36 missions out of Flixton, England over Germany. Most
recently, Howie appeared with his pilot and copilot on the TV series "War
Stories", narrated by Ollie North depicting the role of bombing missions
during WWII.
He was a member of the Spencer United Methodist Church, the Spencer Lodge of
Masons, AF & AM, and was a former Boy Scout Leader for Troop 117. He
graduated from David Prouty High School in 1937.
Born in Spencer, he was the son of Leroy Sherman and Elsie (Proctor) Wilson
and lived here most of his life.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family with burial
with Military Honors in Pine Grove Cemetery, Spencer. There are no calling
hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. John's High
School Scholarship Fund, 378 Main St., Shrewsbury, Ma. 01506.
