Fall River - Marian (Ballou) Barnes, 86, of Little Compton, RI passed away at Southpointe Rehabilitation & Skilled Care Center. She was the widow of Norman W. Barnes.
Born in Attleboro, MA, daughter of the late G. Allan and Doris H. (Bassett) Ballou, she had lived in Little Compton for most of her life. Prior to retirement, she was a school librarian for the City of Cranston School System. Mrs. Barnes volunteered with the Little Compton Grange #32 and with the Little Compton Community Center. An avid reader and knitter, she knitted over 800 hats for the Little Compton Grange #32 that were distributed to the newborns in area hospitals and also knitted prayer shawls for the Little Compton United Congregational Church.
Survivors include a son: Dick E. Barnes of Friday Harbor, WA; a daughter: Becky E. Straw and her husband Jeff of Wrentham, MA; a sister: Norma Palmer of Little Compton, RI; 2 grandchildren: Ryan Straw and Elaina Straw; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Allan Ballou.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Friday, October 26, 2007 at the Potter Funeral Home at 7:30 P.M.
Visitation will be Friday 5 - 7:30 P.M. prior to the service.
Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
