Obituary

WORCESTER-Anastasia E. (Koukas) Gatzogiannis, 94 of 82 Sever Street died Friday, December 14th at home after an illness. Her husband of 65 years Evangelos Gatzogiannis died in 1993. She leaves 3 sons Elias E. Gatzogiannis of N. Grafton, Demitrios E. Gatzogiannis of Wells, ME and George E. Gatzogiannis of Hopkinton; 3 daughters Vasiliki Kyros and Ourania Stratis both of Worcester and Eleftheria Bouris of Natick; a brother Sotirios Koukas of Crete, Greece; 2 sisters Efrosini Tsonis of N. Dartmouth and Sophia Dalamagas of Athens, Greece; 15 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces in the U.S. and Greece. Her eldest daughter Hrisoula Gatzogiannis died in 1949 as a casualty of the Greek Civil War, a grandson Foto Stratis of Worcester died in 1989.

She was born in Lia, Epirus, Greece daughter of Zekou and Vasiliki (Nassios) Koukas and came to the U.S. with her children in 1955. She was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral. She enjoyed traveling to Greece every year.

The funeral will be held Monday, December 17th from O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue with a service at 10:00 AM in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday December 16th from 5:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made payable to Anastasia E. Gatzogiannis, 82 Sever Street, Worcester, MA 01609. All proceeds will be used for the benefit of The Church of the Virgin Mary, Lia, Epirus, Greece.
