
John Wesley “J.W.” Fields, 79, of Fitzgerald, died Monday, October 22, 2007 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, October 25, 2007, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with Rev. Clayton Dowd and Rev. Kenny Griffin, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Fields was born July 31, 1928 in Parrish, Alabama to the late Richard F. and Janie Guy Fields. He moved to Fitzgerald in 1960 from Fayette, Alabama. Mr. Fields served in the United States Army during the Korean War era. He was a former employee of Pioneer Housing, Fitzgerald Mills, Irwin Manufacturing and a former employee of the State Highway Department. Mr. Fields was a member of the Assembly of God.
Mr. Fields is survived by his wife, Rachel Jenkins Fields of Fitzgerald; children and their spouses, Dale & Ann Fields, Beverly & Frank Martin, Elaine & Bennie Hutto, Karen Baker & Freddy Reyes, Sammy & Heather Fields and Rose & David Grimes all of Fitzgerald; 16 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Richard C. Fields, grandson, Jonathan L. Hutto and great grandchild, J. Peyton Berryhill.
