Obituary

George "Lawton" Dearing, 95, of Tifton died Saturday, October 20, 2007, at Tift Health Care. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 23, 2007, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Dan Eidson and Rev. Richard McNair will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Pallbearers will be J. B. Womack, Jack Tally, Buddy Tally, Reid Wilson, Dan Gibson and Wayne Branch. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Men's #2 Sunday School Class of Chula Baptist Church. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 22, 2007, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. The family will meet at 1924 Old Ocilla Road in Tifton.

Mr. Dearing was born on January 4, 1912 in Tift County and was the son of George Lee Dearing and Emma Dearing, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Elma O'Neal Dearing, who died in 1994; his second wife, Louise Mullis Dearing, who died in 2004; two sons; two sisters; and three brothers. He was a farmer and a member of Chula Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Men's #2 Sunday School Class and the Golden Age Club. He was a lifelong resident of Tift County.

Mr. Dearing is survived by several nephews and nieces including Wayne and Gail Richards of Tifton; Carol and Bill Justine of Tifton, Gail and Johnny Copeland of Killen, Alabama, Frances and Harmon Walker of Alabama and Jane Walker of North Carolina; and one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ben and Amelia O'Neal of Gainesville, Florida.
