Manchester NH– Rev. Raymond A. Demers, 81,died October 20, 2007 at the Bishop Peterson Residence following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Dracut MA., on July 26, 1926, the son of Emile and Grace (Perras) Demers.
He studied at Bourget College in Rigaud, Canada, Seminaire de Philosophie , Montreal and St. Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore MD.
He was ordained by Bishop Matthew F. Brady in Manchester NH on June 4, 1955.
He served the Diocese of Manchester in many areas of the state including Suncook, Rochester, Laconia, Lincoln, and Somersworth.
He was also Chaplain at the NH State Hospital, CMC Hospital, St. Francis Home in Laconia, as well as the VA Hospital in Manchester.
He celebrated his Golden Jubilee, 50 years of Priesthood, in 2005.
Family members include two brothers Maurice Demers, of Hudson, Marcel Demers, of Homestead FL., many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services: A Rite of Reception of the Body will take place at 3 pm on Tuesday in St. Joseph Cathedral, Pine St. Manchester NH. Rev Demers will lie in state in the church until 7 pm when evening services will be celebrated.
On Wednesday at 11 am a Mass of Christian burial will be concelebrated. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, E. Chelmsford MA.
