LOWELL - Georgia (Xigoros) Hantzis, 79, a resident of Lowell, died Friday October 19th at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. She was the wife of the late Apostoli Tsiousi who died in 1950 and the late Costas Hantzis who died in 1998.
She was born in Greece on April 15, 1928, and was a daughter of the late Efstathios and Christina (Sotiropoulos) Xigoros. She received her education in Greece and emigrated to the United States in 1951.
Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Hantzis was employed as a seamstress by the former Lark Dress in Lowell. Previous to that she was employed by the former Hathaway in Lowell.
She enjoyed gardening, sewing, needle point, reading, taking care of her grandchildren, and spending time with her family.
She was an active member of Hellenic Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity in Lowell and a member of the Logganiko Society.
She is survived by her son Nicholas Hantzis of Lowell; three daughters and sons-in-law Tasia and Perry Theophilopoulos of Salem, MA, Effie and Arthur Keriakos of Dracut, and Connie and Nicholas Vergados of North Andover; seven grandchildren, Arthur Theophilopoulos and Paul Theophilopoulos, both of Salem, MA; Kristen Keriakos of Boston, Kostas Hantzis of Middleton, and Basil Vergados, Costas Vergados, and Kyros Vergados, all of North Andover; four brothers Fotios Xigoros and his wife Stavroula of Lowell, John Xigoros and his wife Katerina of Dracut, Arthur Xigoros of Lowell, and Demetrios Xigoros and his wife Fotoula of Greece; two sisters, Christine Pournaras and her husband Nick, and Vasiliki Sotirakos and her husband Costas, all of Lowell; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT, on Monday from 4 until 8P.M. Her funeral will be held from the funeral home on Tuesday at 9A.M., followed by her Funeral Service at 10A.M. at the Hellenic Orthodox of the Holy Trinity, Lowell. Interment in Westlawn Cemetery, Lowell.
