Obituary

WORCESTER-Charles M. Dineen, 88, of 555 Plantation Street, formerly of 3 Rockwell Street, died Monday, December 30th in the Meadows of Leicester. His wife Annette E. (Leith) Dineen died in 1998. He leaves his son Gerald C. Dineen of Worcester, 2 granddaughters Sarah S. Dineen of Brighton and Kate L. Dineen of Worcester, many nephews and nieces. A brother William G. Dineen and 2 sisters Nora F. Gannon and Ellen M. Dineen predeceased him.

He was born in Worcester the son of Timothy W. and Julia (Buckley) Dineen. He was a 1934 graduate of Worcester Boy’s Trade School. Mr. Dineen was a World War 2 Army veteran, and participated in the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Combat Infantryman’s Badge. Mr. Dineen at one time been manager of the former Metro Bowl on Park Avenue, and later purchased the bowling alley and operated it until he retired in 1978. He was past president and treasurer of the Massachusetts Bowling Association, and was an original co-promoter of televised candlepin bowling. He was an avid golfer.

Calling hours are from 4:00 until 7:00 PM, Wednesday, January 1st in O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue. Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Notre Dame Healthcare Center, 555 Plantation Street, Worcester, MA 01605.
