CYNTHIA (SMITH) HORNSTRA of Hingham, died on Wednesday, October 17th at her home after a long illness. She was 82. Mrs. Hornstra was born in New York City and came to Hingham at a very early age. She attended Thayer Academy in Braintree, Derby Academy in Hingham and was a graduate of Hingham High School. For 10 years she was a Certified Nurses' Aide at the former Deering Nursing Home in Hingham. Mrs. Hornstra was an active member of the Hingham Congregational Church and was a longtime member of that church's outreach committee. She volunteered her time and energy to many groups and causes, especially the local AIDS Action Committee, the Hingham Historical Society and being an excellent cook, provided homecooked meals for those who were sick or housebound. She loved her family and friends and enjoyed many trips and cruises with them to Europe and the Caribbean.
She was the wife of the late Edward O. Hornstra and mother of Deborah H. Adkins of Shrewsbury, Peter E. Hornstra and Elizabeth L. Stoddard both of Hingham. Also survived by 4 grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be conducted on Saturday, Oct. 20th at 11 AM at the Hingham Congregational Church, 378 Main St. (Rt. 228), Hingham.
