Obituary

Margery E. (Day) Wheeler, 77, of Mattapoisett died Saturday October 13, 2007 at her daughter's home surrounded by her loving family after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Frederick A. Wheeler.

Born in Gloucester, the daughter of the late Franklin L. and Eleanor (Wheeler) Day, she lived in Marblehead before moving to Mattapoisett many years ago.

Mrs. Wheeler was a dedicated nurse who worked on the Stroke Ward at St. Luke's Hospital for 20 years.

She was a member of the Mattapoisett Women's Club. She was an accomplished seamstress, an avid gardener, a gifted pianist, and an avid reader. She also enjoyed knitting, sewing, and upholstering.

Survivors include five children, John Wheeler of Providence, Jane Hutcheson of Seattle, Dorothy Wheeler-MacBrien, Frank Wheeler, and James Wheeler, all of Mattapoisett; a sister, Beatrice Souza of Gloucester; her sister-in-law and friend for 60 years, Dorothy Landry of Halifax; seven grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was the mother of the late Steven M. Wheeler, and sister of the late Barbara Michael and Martha Slater.

Her Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 11 AM at the Mattapoisett Congregational Church. Burial will follow in Cushing Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd., Route 6, Mattapoisett.
