Obituary

Robert L. Slocum 74, a resident of Whitman for 46 years and Homosassa, Florida died at his home Saturday October 13, 2007 of prostate cancer. He was the beloved husband of Jane (Radcliffe) Slocum.

Mr. Slocum was born and educated in Hyde Park, spending his summers in Scituate. He was the son of the late John J. and Ruth E. (Salman) Slocum.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy during the Korean War having served from 1951 – 1955.

He worked as mail carrier for the US Postal Service in the Needham Branch for 30 years retiring in 1992. He later worked 7 years as a concierge at Orchard Cove in Canton.

In addition to his wife of 51 years he is survived by three sons, Kenneth A. Slocum of Whitman, Thomas R. Slocum of East Bridgewater, Edward R. Slocum of Duxbury, and his daughter Debra Jane Harris of New Hampshire. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren.

His funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday October 16th in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel (Rte 58 @ the Rotary Circle) Whitman. Burial will follow in the Colebrook Cemetery, Whitman. Visiting hours will be held 9:00-11:00 AM prior to the service. www.blanchardfc.com
