GLOUCESTER: George W. Morey, 82, died early Saturday, October 13, 2007 in the Den-Mar Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Rockport following a brief illness. He was the husband of Anne L. (Smurrage) Morey.
Born at home on Washington Street, Gloucester on August 23, 1925, he was the son of the late George W. and Helen (Young) Morey. He was a lifelong resident of Gloucester.
As a young man he worked at Young’s Farm and then for Harvey’s Oil Company. He finished out his working days at the Lanesville Package Store with his son, David. Because he spent all of his years in Lanesville, he was very well known and well liked.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, David W. and Virginia Morey, two granddaughters, Lisa A. (Morey) and her husband, Tom Abbott and Julie R. Morey and her fiancée, Broughton Wentworth all of Gloucester, two great-grandchildren, Taylor E. and Zachary T. Abbott, with whom he spent a great deal of time. They brought him much joy and happiness. He was also predeceased by a great-grandson, Thomas A. “Tripp” Abbott, III.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday in the St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1123 Washington St., Gloucester at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. At the family’s request, there are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Cape Ann Animal Aid, 260 Main St., Gloucester, MA 01930.
