ELMER "RUSS" HUME, 85, a Hingham resident for over 50 years, died on Wednesday, Oct. 10th at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth after a long battle with Alzheimers Disease. Mr. Hume was born in Prince Edward Island, Canada and came to Somerville at the age of two where he was raised. He attended Wentworth Institute and graduated from Fitchburg State College with a degree in education. Mr. Hume then served with the United States Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. He was a metallurgist by profession and for 20 years was an owner and partner at the M & H Foundry Company in Neponset. He then taught metallurgy at the Quincy Vocational School for a number of years prior to his retirement in1990. Mr. Hume was a member of the Hingham Congregational Church, the Medford Masonic Lodge and the Hingham Yacht Club.
He leaves his wife of 59 years, Priscilla L. (Allen) Hume of Hingham; two daughters, Deborah H. Stockbridge of Scituate and Sandra H. Bailey of Richmond, VA; and a son, Donald A. Hume of Plymouth. He was the brother of Gladys Mood of Winchester, MA and A. Richard Hume of Vero Beach, FL. Also survived by 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandsons.
A Memorial Service will be conducted on Sunday, Oct. 14th at 2 PM at the Hingham Congregational Church, 378 Main St. (Rt. 228), Hingham, MA 02043.
Visiting hours and flowers omitted request. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472 or to the Hingham Congregational Church.
The interment is to be private.
