Obituary

Pauline Hollis Lowell, active in the Hellenic community; 91 LOWELL Pauline (Eliopoulos) Hollis, died in Lowell, on Sunday, October 7, 2007, after suffering from Alzheimer's disease for a prolonged period of time. She was 91 years old.
She was born in Lowell, Mass., on Feb. 11, 1916, the daughter of the late Greek immigrants Elias and Eleni (Mangiavas) Eliopoulos. She attended Lowell public schools, and graduated from Lowell High School.
Her family suffered the horrors of World War II in which they lost her brother, George.
For two decades, Pauline worked as a clerk for the Lowell District Court.
In 1953, she married Nicholas Hollis. They had a long and devoted marriage.
Pauline was proud of her Greek heritage and was active in Greek community affairs, especially with the Philoptochos Society Pantanassa, throughout her life.
She was known for her sewing handwork, her baklava and her social gatherings. She and Nick enjoyed traveling, particularly significant for them were their trips to Greece with friends to visit family.
Pauline was the beloved Yiayia of her grandchildren, Nikos and Chloe Hollis, enjoying many outdoor adventures with them in Colorado, Wyoming, and Utah. In addition to her grandchildren, she is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Peter Hollis and Joan Frisbie, of Colorado. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Peter and Belkus Eliopoulos; her sister-in-law, Ann Hollis; and several loving nieces and nephews. Her sister Ethel Eliopoulos died two days previously. Pauline also was preceded in death by her husband, Nick, brothers George, Jim and Chris Eliopoulos, Jim's wife, Evie, and Nick's brother, Bill Hollis.
Friends will be received at the M.R. LAURIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 295 Pawtucket St., Lowell on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Her funeral will take place on Wednesday at 9 a.m. from the Funeral Home to be followed by services at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Lowell at 10 a.m. Interment to follow in Westlawn Cemetery. IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Holy Trinity Church or to the Hellenic School, Lewis St. Lowell, MA 01854.
