Lillian Cook Roe Lillian Cook Roe, 85, formerly of Clarksville, died Monday, October 8, 2007, at St. Thomas Alive Hospital, Nashville. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church with Dr. Roger Freeman officiating. Burial will be in Robertson County Memorial Gardens, Springfield. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Neal-Tarpley Funeral Home and from 10 am till the hour of service Monday at First Baptist Church. Neal-Tarpley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Roe graduated from Springfield High School in 1939, attended Union University, and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education, Masters of Arts Degree in Library Science, and an EDS + 30 hours from Austin Peay State University. She was retired from the Montgomery County School System after 22 years of service. She was the librarian at St. Bethlehem Elementary School for 20 of those years. She was a 52 year member of The First Baptist Church where she served as the church librarian for many years. Mrs. Roe was a member of the Sunshine Sunday School Class, The Warrioto Book Club, The Clarksville Garden Club, The Retired Teachers’ Association, and served on the Tennessee Baptist Convention Committee on Boards Committee from 1995-1998.
Mrs. Roe was born June 28, 1922, in Robertson County Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Cook and Fairrie Simmons Cook, her sisters Bonnie Cook Swan and Edna Cook Luton, and her husband, of 54 years, John Howard Roe, Sr.
Mrs. Roe is survived by her son, John H. Roe (Jane) of Nashville and her daughter Lynne Roe Wilson of Clarksville. She is also survived by her grandchildren Lillian Gilmer (Nate) of Nashville, John Roe (Alicia), Australia, Alan Roe, Russia, Laurie Winningham Gardiner (Andy), Nashville, Patrick Winningham, Murfreesboro, and John Winston Wilson, Clarksville. In addition, Mrs. Roe is survived by great-grandchildren Lila, Emily, and Hannah Gilmer, Tasman Brinton-Roe, and Gavin Richard Gardiner. Mrs. Roe is also survived by her brother, Leonard Cook of Remlap, Alabama.
Additional survivors include devoted caregivers Dianne Long and Goldie Casas.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Patrick Winningham and John Winston Wilson. grandsons-in-law Andy Gardiner and Nate Gilmer, as well as nephews. Honorary Pall Bearers will be members of the Sunshine Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church.
