Obituary

FRANKLIN—Francis N. Ryan Jr. 74, died Saturday October 6, 2007 at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Phyllis P. (Faenza) Ryan.
Born November 5, 1932 in Medway, a son of the late Francis N. Ryan Sr. and Mary (Lempitsky) Ryan he was a longtime Franklin resident.
Educated in Franklin schools, he worked as a foreman for the former Milford Shoe Company and as supervisor for the Foot-Joy Shoe Company in Brockton. After his retirement he worked as a part-time consultant for Foot-Joy.
Mr. Ryan served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharged in January 1955.
His interests included traveling, playing golf, cooking, and spending time in his gardens. His passion was spending time with his family and his grandchildren.
He was a member of the New England Shoe Foreman and Superintendents Association, the American Association of Retired Persons and was a former member of the Franklin Sons of Italy.
In addition to his wife of 52 years are 4 sons Kevin F. Ryan and his wife Donna of Franklin, Paul E. Ryan of Daytona Beach, Fla., Dana M. Ryan and his wife Kathy of Franklin and Gary J. Ryan of Franklin, a brother George J. Ryan and his wife Mary of Cumberland and a sister Patricia A. Panaro and her husband Richard of North Reading and his former daughter in law Jean Fox of Knoxville, TN.

Also surviving are his grandchildren Kyle, Cory, Melissa, Matthew and Alex Ryan and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Ronald M. Ryan.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral with military honors on Thursday at 10:45AM from the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. Franklin (www.franklinfuneral.com) with a funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church 1 Church Sq. at 11:30AM
Interment will follow in the family lot in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Franklin.
Calling hours are Wednesday Oct. 10, 2007 from 4-8PM at the funeral home.
