Obituary

LOWELL—Brian J. Delaney, 69 years old, a longtime resident of Lowell, died Sunday, October 7th, at Saints Medical Center. He is the husband of Carolyn (Briana) Delaney, who survives him.

He was born in Lowell, on October 24, 1937, a son of the late Frederick and Catherine P. (Daley) Delaney, and was a graduate of St. Michael’s Grammar School and Lowell High School, Class of 1956. He served in the United States Army Reserves.

Mr. Delaney began his career in November of 1959 at New England telephone as an Equipment Installer and retired in 1997 from NYNEX. He became active in Union activities of the International Brotherhood of Telephone Workers, Local #9, and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local # 2321. In the late 1960’s and continued as an Executive Board member and Union Steward until his retirement in 1997,

He served three terms on the Lowell City Council in the 1970’s. Brian loved the City of Lowell and worked throughout his adult life to make it a better place to live and work. Her served as a mentor to many aspiring local politicians and was frequently sought after for his wisdom and council. He was an honorary Life Member of the East End Club and the Polish American Veteran’s Club.

Surviving him besides his wife are a son and daughter-in-law: Brian T. and Nancy Delaney, of Lowell; two daughters and sons-in-law: Theresa J. and Peter Mongan, of Westford, and Christina and Fred Murphy, of Ashby; five grandchildren: Erin Delaney, Tim Mongan, Stephanie Mongan, Trevor Murphy and Eric Murphy; also a great grand-daughter: Mackenzie Chung; two brothers: Frederick Delaney, and Brendan Delaney, both of Hampton, NH; two sisters: Sally Sawyer, of Lowell; and Linda Prevenas, of Chelmsford; also many nieces and nephews.

DELANEY-- Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM on Wednesday, October 10th, at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, (Rte. 38). His Funeral Mass to be offered on Thursday, October 11th at 11 AM at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH, Lowell. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury.
