Dorothea T. (Murphy) Gordon, 85, a resident of Hanson, formerly of Whitman, died Saturday October 6th at the Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton, after a brief Illness. She was the wife of the late George S. Gordon. She was born and brought up in Boston, daughter of the late Joseph G. and Rose A. (McAteer) Murphy. She was a graduate of the St. Patrick’s School in Boston. Dorothea spent most of her life in Whitman, before moving to Hanson recently, she was a self employed bookkeeper, a member of the Holy Ghost Church in Whitman , where she was the organist for many years, member of the Ladies Sodality, active in the church carnivals and the ham and bean suppers. She is survived by her sons James Gordon of East Bridgewater, Richard Gordon of Plymouth and her daughter Joanne Gordon of Hanson; her siblings, Gerald Murphy of Winthrop, Ronald Murphy of Penn., Patricia Murphy of Milton, Rosemary Murphy and Elizabeth Alker both of Natick.3 granddaughters Caroline, Amanda and Kathleen; several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Thomas, Richard, Joseph, Albert and Elaine Murphy.
Her funeral service will be held Thursday October 11th at 9:15 A. M. from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Inc, Plymouth Street (Rt 58 at the Rotary Circle), Whitman, MA. , followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 AM in the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman ,MA Burial will follow in the St, James Cemetery, Whitman, MA. Visiting hours Wednesday October 10th 4-8 P.M. Donations may be made in her name to the Life care Center/Activity Fund, 765 West Center St., West Bridgewater,Ma.
