Obituary

Owen J. Doherty, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, died suddenly at his home on Thursday, October 4, 2007. He was 88 years old.

Owen was born in Charlestown and grew up there, where he attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1937. He worked for a few years as an electrician for several companies before enlisting into the United States Navy in July of 1944. He served during World War 2 and was discharged in June of 1946. He then began working as an electrician at the Boston Naval Shipyard in Charlestown and retired in 1976 after 30 years of service. He was a member of the D.A.V. Post # 10.

Owen is the beloved son of the late Neil and Ellen (Doherty) Doherty both formerly of Urris, Clonmany, County Donegal, Ireland. He is the devoted brother of Jane Hartery of Lexington and the late Bridget Veronica Hickey and Sally Kelley. He is the loving uncle of Thomas Hickey, Brian Hickey, Maryellen Doherty, Thomas Hartery, Neil and Paul Hartery, Owen Hartery and Jane Sheedy.

Owen's Funeral will be held on Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at 9 a.m. from the Carr Funeral Home 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours for Owen will be on Monday October 8, 2007 from 3 to 7 p.m. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
