Obituary

JAMES LAWRENCE DALEY (Jim), aged 96, died peacefully in his sleep, October 5, 2007 in Nashua, New Hampshire after a mercifully short illness. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts on August 24, 1911, and is the last of nine children born to Daniel Daley and Mary Keefe Daley. He lived through the depression, served in the army during the Second World War, married Kathleen McDermott in New York City after the war and served in the FBI investigating among other things the Baptist Church bombing in Birmingham, Alabama in the mid-1960s.

After his retirement, Jim took time off and to satisfy his wanderlust and travelled to almost every state in the continental United States before he moved to Malden, MA, where he volunteered 10 years for Meals on Wheels. Later he continued his travels visiting his family in Indiana, New York, Switzerland and London, England. He moved to Nashua, NH in 1988 and lived first in Sky Meadow and then in Langdon Place where he cultivated many wonderful friends among the residents and staff there.

Jim is survived by his beloved son, James L. Daley, Jr. and his daughter-in-law, Becky Daley, and by his cherished grandchildren, Kimeran and Brendan Daley who affectionately called him GP, and by their partners, Rudy Reinhart and Vanessa Daley. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews for whom he had a great affection and who honored him throughout his life, and especially by his wonderfully caring niece, Kathryn Coyne and her husband Bob, who offered him unstinting love and assistance during his stay in Langdon Place. Jim will be remembered by all for his wit and sense of humor, his relentless and quite vocal love of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots, his never-ending pursuit of the current television news and his (usually) friendly affable manner.

A memorial service will be held 2:00, Monday, October 8 at Langdon Place, 319 East Dunstable Road, Nashua, NH. The family will receive friends Monday evening, October 8 from 6:00-9:00 at the A.J. Breslin & Son Funeral Home, 610 Pleasant Street, Malden, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception in Malden on Tuesday Oct. 9th at 9 AM. Interment will be with his beloved wife Kathleen in New York State on Wednesday.
