Nicolas Mercado 66 years of Brockton died October 1 at the Brockton Hospital. He was the husband of Ramonita Mercado. He was born and raised in Sabana Grande, Puerto Rico a son of the late Nicolas and Maria Mercado and for the past 32 years had resided in Brockton. During the early 1960s he served in the US Army in Puerto Rico.
For several years he was employed by Ernie’s Construction in Brockton and previously had been a truck driver for Amoco and Sunoco Gas Companies. He loved baseball and had played for the Pedro Vasquez Baseball League in Boston and was a manager for the Downey Little League 1979-89. He’ll be remembered by family and friends as a prankster.
In addition to his wife he is survived by 3 sons Nicolas, Jr. and his wife Sandi of Houston, TX, Santos and his fiancée Connie and Oscar and his wife Raquel of Brockton, 4 grandchildren, 7 brothers and sisters and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (Rte 123) Brockton, Friday at 12:30pm with visitation 11:30-12:30. Burial in Massachusetts National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Downey Little League.
