NEW BEDFORD -- Hilda Anne (Modesto) Rose, 84 died Tuesday, September 18, 2007 at Hathaway Manor Extended Care Facility.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Antone R. and Elvira (Picanso) Modesto, she resided in the city most of her life. She served in the U.S. Navy as a WAVE during World War II and was a member of the American Legion Post 385 where she held many different positions.
She was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church. She worked at various jobs in the area such as Techbuilt, Almeida Bus Lines and the School Department; she also worked many years as a seamstress.
Survivors include three sons, James Alan of Ohio, Michael Andrew of Florida, and Wayne Anthony of Georgia, thirteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Eileen Modesto, and is survived by a sister Bernice McDermott of New York, and two brothers Arthur Modesto of Arkansas and Anthony Modesto of Oklahoma.
In accordance with her wishes, she will be cremated. Her funeral mass will be held on Friday September 28, 2007 at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church followed by interment at St. John’s Cemetery.
