1st Lt. John E. Makara Ret.
Hooksett– John E Makara, 85, died September 28, 2007 at Elliot Hospital following a long illness.
He was born in Manchester on June 23, 1922 the son of Ignacy and Antonina (Przybolowicz) Makara.
He served his country in both the U.S. Army and National Guard.
Prior to his retirement he was a working foreman for Public Service of NH.
He was a member of Suncook American Legion Post 28, he also served on the board, as treasurer and as chaplain counseling veterans. He was also a member of the St. Joseph Society of St. Hedwig Church, and was instrumental at starting Bingo to stabilize St. Hedwig Church financially. He was an avid cribbage player, loved gardening, reading, and took great pride in his impeccably landscaped yard.
Family members include his wife Teresa (Ptak) Makara, and son Scott Makara, both of Hooksett.
Services: a calling hour will be on Thursday from 8:30 to 9:30 am in J. N. Boufford & Sons Funeral Home 110 Bridge St.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday following the calling hour at 10 am in St. Hedwig Church.
Burial will follow in St. Hedwig Cemetery, Bedford.
